Catherine Elise Jordan was born on 22 June 1990, in Holly Springs, Mississippi USA, and is a journalist, but perhaps best known for being the wife of journalist and author Michael Hastings who produced numerous award winning contributions thanks to his articles, profiles and books. He passed away in 2013.

Early Life and Education
While very little is known about Elise’s childhood, or her decision to eventually lead her to the path in journalism. It is known that she her brother were raised in Mississippi by her parents. She would then attend Yale University, and complete a degree there in 2004.
She would go on to work on her career, improving and elevating her skills through various paths she chose. She became a speech writer for Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, and also worked as a speechwriter for the National Security Council. She then pursued journalistic work, and would contribute for several publications which would eventually lead her to get her own column with the “National Journal” and “National Review”.
Marriage to Michael Hastings
In 2011, Jordan married fellow journalist Michael Hastings in Holly Springs, Mississippi – he had rose to prominence for his coverage of the Iraq War while working for Newsweek in the 2000s. He wrote the book entitled “I Lost My Love in Baghdad: A Modern War Story”, which details his engagement to Andrea Parhamovich prior to her death. He also received a George Polk Award for his profile of General Stanley McChrystal – entitled “The Runaway General” – and would then write the book entitled “The Operators”, which details his one month stay with the General.
Only two years after their marriage, Michael would tragically pass away, crashing his Mercedes C250 Coupe in the Hancock Park neighborhood in Los Angeles. According to eyewitness reports, the car was travelling at maximum speed, creating sparks and flames before crashing into a palm tree. His body was burned beyond recognition – an investigation showed that there were no signs of foul play. Numerous questions were raised about the events that took his life, and Richard A. Clarke even mentioned that the details of the crash were consistent with a car cyber-attack. Days before the crash, Hastings declared that he was being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), stating that he has a big story and would need to ‘go off the radar’, however, the FBI released a statement that they were not involved in any investigation regarding him. Some friends of Hastings stated that in the days prior to his death, he had grown increasingly agitated, stating that he was worried that his new story was being surveyed by the government.

After the tragic death of her husband, Elise decided to push on with her career despite all of the difficulties she faced. She started working for “Time Magazine” as a contributor, and also became a political analyst for the television network MSNBC, providing news coverage and also political commentary on current events.

She returned to working as a columnist too, for the “National Review” and “National Journal”. She also became a contributor to the online publication, The Daily Beast. (Her husband had also been known to contribute to several popular online publications, including BuzzFeed.) She also wrote about her husband’s passing in an article featured in “Time” magazine shortly after the posthumous release of her husband’s novel “The Last Magazine”. She told his story from her perspective, and the article featured a farewell of sorts, stating the things she misses now that her husband is no longer with her.
Personal Life and Social Media
Since her husband’s death, Jordan has remained single and there are no public signs that she’s likely to move forward with a new relationship any time soon. Similar to many journalistic personalities, she maintains Twitter and Instagram accounts, which have a significant following. She often features recent events, and gives updates on the latest news as well as some of her daily endeavors. Her Instagram account mainly features her travels, plus she still post pictures of her late husband. She also shows pictures of her dog, a corgi, clearly her ‘security cushion’.
